About Me

My name is Jason "Mountain" Harman. Most people call me Mountain and you can feel free to do the same. I'm a 37 year old bass enthusiast. I started playing at 17. At 21 I started following the Grateful Dead and while on the road had access to acoustic guitars mostly and eventually made the switch. A year or so ago I decided to switch back to bass. After so many years away it was great to see all these new makers and models to choose from but unfortunately I could barely find anything but the old standards and cheap crap locally. After checking out most of Portland's music shops I came to a disturbing conclusion. Music stores don't really care about basses and bassists. At guitar store after guitar store we are treated like an afterthought. I realized after over ten years in Portland I had seen very few 5 string basses and couldn't recall ever seeing a six string bass in any Portland shop. Brands like MTD, Lakland, NS Design and Spector are not being represented locally at all. I found this very frustrating and decided to do something about it. So I'm starting my own specialty bass shop. It's going to start fairly small. Initially I hope to have 40-50 basses, straps, a very limited selection of strings, and a few amps. Even though I won't have everything under the sun in stock at first I should still be able to special order just about anything. Over the next few years I hope to expand to carry more accessories but for now I wanted my focus on what is needed most. Basses!

The Need To Know Advantage

Why buy from me? It's simple. I care. I want to make sure each and every customer gets an instrument they can enjoy for a lifetime. I want to sell quality basses that are joy to play and won't be hindrance to people learning to play. I have one very simple criteria for basses I will sell in the shop. I will not sell anything that I would not be happy playing myself. If I don't like it I won't sell it. Plain and simple. When you buy from me you can feel comfortable knowing you are supporting a small local business that truly cares about getting a quality bass in your hands. At the start this will be a one man operation. When you come in the shop you will have me at your service. When you call you will speak directly to me. If you order from Ebay I will be the one who carefully packages your bass. If I mess up I will take responsibility and do everything in my power to fix it. I'm fully committed to this business and will do everything I can to make it work. I know the only way for the business to work is to have happy customers.
